Military action is state approved killing or in simple terms "murder". It has a purpose and from time to time becomes a necessity. I see no difference. There are very specific rules about how that is undertaken, soldiers have to maintain fire discipline otherwise they can end up themselves breaking the law and charged with murder.
As long as the laws are robust and it's use very limited in scope I dont have a problem with it.
If the act is immoral, what does that make the person doing them?

The killers right to life is lost when they take their victims lives in my book. They showed no mercy to their victims as they begged and pleaded for their lives. They have a right to a fair trial, but if convicted have lost their right to life, I think 12 months should be more than enough for appeals / new evidence etc. If the defense cant come up with any thing working 24/7 for those 12 months then time's up. Reasonable doubt will weed out poor cases.
I'm not talking crimes of passion etc here, but stranger killing, random deliberate killing for whatever reason.
One could argue that psychopathy is a mental disorder as they tend to have different brain structures, but then one could go that route about paedophiles etc etc. Maybe serial killers and child abusers should have special rights to equality and "understanding"?

I'm for the death penalty when the cases are clear cut like this one.
I saw the Born to Kill on TV earlier in the week, this one was about BTK (which stands for Bind Torture Kill) who was a serial killer in USA.
He got life in prison, .....I was like WTF?

i enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.
i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.
it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.
